Don't choke
(#dontchoke) when your campaign reaches 4.3m Finnish people out of 5.5m. Thanks to important message of sustainable future with Neste's renewable energy solutions delivered with a world-class messenger, NBA player Lauri Markkanen (ChiCago Bulls) and the dream team of people combining the two. The results were outstanding on every level. When a project is this powerful, you do not feel small even next to 2.13 m tall Lauri.
We spent 3 days in amazing north Thailand filming with Jasper.

I've been fan of whales since I was a kid.
S-group is the biggest retailer in Finland and its Prisma brand being the most succesful hypermarket in the market. Selling a wide variety of consumer goods all around the country. The launch concept that we created for their new clothing line is "Fashion belongs to everybody".
The campaign to launch the kids' clothing line was fun to create and even more fun to do. Our goal was to make a story that children would love and get their parents in a good mood. My idea was to make a fashion invasion of children in a unusual landscape - with whale on wheels. We made the final script together with Taito Kawata. It was so much fun for me to be the photographer in this project. Made in Sherpa. Styling: Sofia Oksanen. Produced by: Pauliina Teirikari.
The song is a cover for Yazoo - Don't Go. One day I just started to whistle the melody and it came to my mind that the song would be a good jingle for Prisma. Markku Mäkelä arranged and produced this very good version. We made other cover versions of the song for all the other campaigns for Prisma's Fashion belongs to everybody launches. The song and all it's newly created cover versions have become quite famous in Finland and are now deeply embedded in Prisma's brand marketing dna.
The latest project with Prisma, the second largest retailer in Finland. Launch of new brand called iJeans. Film was Made in January 2018 with: Taito, Tom, Sofia, Pauliina, Markku & Sherpa. Photos by me (not used in the campaign) Thanks for the lens Studio Varustamo.
The launch of Garage was the a first in the category of hard lemonades in Scandinavia in 2011. I created the name and the main part of the concept.
Now you might think this looks like some hipster shit, but all the characters are real people that I've met and acquainted in Portland, my second home. We created the films, stills, look and feel together with Neil Dacosta, Shelby Menzel, Bowen Ames. The Garage launch was just a moment before the global beard and hipster invasion, so we were really on trend with the mood and lifestyle.
The launch won a Silver Effie in the business category. Garage was created and launched in Finland by Sinebrychoff, but due to it's success was later launched internationally by Carlsberg, the owner of Sinebrychoff.
Makwan Amirkhani immigrated from Iran to Finland when he was a child. Today he is one of most well known UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) fighters in the europe. Amirkhani acted as the brand ambassador for Sokos, a major Finnish department store chain in 2017.
Me, director Taito Kawata, the client and Amirkhani made a script telling Amirkhani's heartbreaking life story for the first film in Sokos's fashion launch campaign. The next two films were more fashion driven, highlighting the wide fashion offering in Sokos. The 2017 marketing plan of Sokos included three major fashion campaigns and it lead to drastically improved sales, especially in the men's department.
The campaign materials were filmed in Finland, Ireland and Dubai. As the creative director I was in charge of concepting the campaigns. I also took all the photographic material in the campaigns.
Styling Sofia Oksanen, hair and makeup Anu Levy. Made in Sherpa. One Big Holiday, Local production company in Dubai.
My first project with Prisma, the second largest retailer in Finland, happened in 2016, launching new street fashion brands for young adults. We used workshopping sessions to create the concept framework together with the client, including the use of brand ambassadors and the concept called Discovering America.
We then went on to search the right kind of ambassadors, from Finland, to represent each brand, and find their favourite things to do in a big city. New York gave us a versatile and lively 24h ambience to do our job and create our campaign materials.
What was a special in the project, and continues to be a particular source of pride for me as the creative director, was building the team. To get people who are working in different production agencies and are actually competitors to work in the same production was something new in the Finnish advertising scene.
The spirit in the whole production was magical. We shot eight long days in a row and everybody was pushing themselves to the limit. What trip, what a team. A true dream come true project.
Team: Taito Kawata, Kim Koponen, Sami Välikangas, Pauliina Teirikari, Lauren Gesswein, Alex Zieliski, Sherpa, Lauri Toivonen, Kati Huurtela.
A special thank you to our ambassadors: Yasmin Janatuinen, Kasperi Kropsu, Konsta Linkola & Roope Salminen.
Boy Meets Girl is an international fun, flirty and edgy young contemporary brand, created by Stacy Igel. Our job was to be the masterminds behind the Finnish launch in Prisma department stores. The scripts for the launch films were made together by me, director Taito Kawata and the client. The launch concept took an angle to the brands campaign slogan Stop bullying, launching at the Fall school start in 2017.
It was a big pleasure for me to be the photographer in this project. Thank you Georgia and Alyssa for being such amazing models. Scroll down to meet the crew in a behind the scenes video I made to celebrate the whole team.
